Job summary

The Sustainable Finance team at adelphi is looking for a driven and experienced Senior Manager to support international financial institutions (IFIs) and commercial banks in primarily low- and middle-income countries in Climate Risk Management and Climate Adaptation Finance. Your role is to manage and lead projects focusing on tasks such as the introduction of climate risk management tools and operational processes, the development and review of climate risk policies or the elaboration of climate adaptation measures for selected industry sectors. You’ll take responsibility for the design of technical assistance projects during acquisition stage while managing external experts and taking an expert role yourself in project implementation.

We expect you to be flexible to also support project work in other areas of sustainable finance such as the implementation of credit lines for energy efficiency or renewable energy financing, the management of financing facilities that support clean-tech or biodiversity investments, and consulting on financial tools and products focusing on urban climate finance, resource efficiency or circular economy

Your tasks

    Depending on your background and expertise, responsibilities may include the following:

  • design and implementation of technical assistance programmes for climate finance with international clients
  • management of international projects including contract, budget, and deliverable management
  • coordination of internal and external teams
  • regular exchange with clients such as IFIs and commercial banks
  • overall quality assurance and compliance with project terms within your projects
  • leading project tenders and acquisitions for the Sustainable Finance programme
  • management and mentorship of own team members
  • Further, as a colleague in our Sustainable Finance programme, you advance the team’s strategic goals, contribute actively to business development activities, guide and advise team members, and exchange experiences with your colleagues on a regular basis to continuously advance our team’s expertise, quality of services, and team spirit.

Your qualifications

  • A university degree (or similar qualification)
  • Minimum 8 years work experience in consulting or in the financial sector, of which a minimum of 5 years in Climate Risk Management/ Climate Adaptation Finance field
  • Experience with the implementation of Technical Assistance (TA) projects on Climate Risk Management/ Climate Adaptation Finance for financial institutions in low- and middle-income countries
  • Expertise and experience in other sustainable finance areas e.g. green/ climate credit lines, (blended) finance instrument design, urban climate finance, resource efficiency or circular economy finance
  • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to manage various projects at once while still achieving a timely and successful implementation
  • High motivation to advance national and international sustainable finance agendas in direct collaboration with financial institutions and commercial banks
  • Good overview of recent sustainable finance trends and initiatives
  • Experience in acquisition, development and implementation of consulting projects
  • Strong organizational skills and sense of responsibility
  • Knowledge and experience in developing and implementing trainings
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to project countries for short-term stays
  • A solution-, client-, and quality-oriented approach to work
  • Creative team player with strong analytical and conceptual skills as well as attention to detail
  • Experience with leading staff and very good interpersonal skills
  • Interest in a long-term collaboration in a dynamically working and growing team
  • Excellent oral and written expression in English
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programmes
