For 25 years now, RIFCON GmbH is an independent scientific consulting company and research organisation founded to make a significant contribution to consumer protection, environmental conservation, and nature preservation. Our head office is located in Hirschberg near the beautiful city of Heidelberg, Germany. About 200 employees work in the fields of agrosciences, environmental impact and biodiversity assessments. Furthermore, we offer environmental monitoring using eDNA approaches. In the area of agrosciences, our field study department specializes in sophisticated ecological and ecotoxicological field studies.

For our field study department based in Hirschberg, we are looking for a field biologist focussing on wild mammals and birds.

These tasks are waiting for you

You will be involved in various aspects of large-scale ecological and ecotoxicological field studies for assessing potential risks to wild mammals and birds exposed to plant protection products in the agrarian landscape, such as:

  • Practical field work for field studies across Europe (typically conducted under Good Laboratory Practice (GLP))
  • Assisting the responsible study directors with preparation of study plans, test site selection and communication with farmers and other involved parties
  • Evaluation of study results including statistical analysis and report preparation
  • Cooperation with other departments of RIFCON GmbH on all project levels
  • Development of new field study types
  • The position offers the opportunity for development towards taking over full study responsibility (study director according to GLP)

You convince us with

  • Scientific background in natural sciences such as biology or equivalent disciplines with focus on wildlife ecology
  • Profound ecological knowledge of European mammal and/or bird species
  • Practical experience with relevant field study methods for mammals/birds (e.g. catching, tagging, tracking, observing)
  • High motivation for practical field work, including flexibility to adapt to varying study types and schedules
  • Prepared to travel and stay away from home
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Very good level of written and spoken English and German (additional languages would be advantageous)
  • Full, clean driving license is required
  • Experience in GLP would be advantageous
