Global Climate Forum e.V. (GCF) is a non-profit research institute based in Berlin that brings together representatives of different parties concerned with climate change including corporations, policymakers, NGOs, civil society and scientists to carry out joint studies and research projects that support climate mitigation and adaptation policies. The Research Process Green Growth (https://globalclimateforum.org/processes/greengrowth/) at GCF Investigates complex socio-economic-ecological dynamics leading to win-win options that achieve emissions reductions while overcoming poverty and unemployment. One of its projects is IMPETUS, an EU H2020 project that will validate a coherent multi-scale, multi-level, cross- sectoral climate change adaptation framework to accelerate the transition towards a climate-neutral and sustainable economy.

Within IMPETUS GCF leads the Decision Theatre – an IT-supported discussion tool with interactive visualization environments - for instance for regional integrated water resource management. The GCF also leads the work package ‘Boosting project impact’ that aims to foster long-term project impacts. This includes providing briefings and guidelines to decision-makers in public agencies, administration, industry and finance, offering assessments of social benefits and costs connected with climate adaptation solutions, identifying policies suitable for innovative climate change adaptation measures.

The successful researcher is expected to have a university degree in one of the following fields: social science, policy, politics, sustainability, ecology, economy, communication, climate change adaption. Depending on accompanying skill set and experiences, applicants with other backgrounds like in natural sciences and IT may be considered. Programming and conceptualization skills are required for this position. The ability to moderate stakeholder discussions and to have a talent for communication would be a big plus. English proficiency must be fluent and on professional level, command of German language is a plus. Applicant must be able to work across disciplines and projects.

The researcher position has a duration of 36 months full time, part time is possible. A competitive salary will be paid according to profile.

We offer the opportunity to work in a high-profile, internationally recognized research institute within a global network of world-leading researchers on social and economic aspects of climate change, as well as national and international organizations. The successful candidate will join a young, friendly and highly motivated transdisciplinary working environment in the heart of Berlin within the Mercator Center Berlin, which unites a range of research institutes and NGOs addressing climate change. Flexible teleworking possibilities are granted. The researcher will further benefit from the project's network and will also collaborate closely with international researchers within the consortium.
