PostDoc position (m/f/d) in Digital Environmental Analysis for Spatial Planning

(39.83 working hours per week), starting as soon as possible and limited for two years.

An extension of the position is possible. Flexible and partly remote working arrangements can be arranged.

The successful applicant will be associated with the Professorship for Environmental Analysis and Planning in Metropolitan Regions at the Institute of Geography and contribute to the transdisciplinary Planning Metropolitan Landscapes (PLACES) lab (tinyurl.com/placeslab).

PLACES aims to deliver excellence in teaching and research in the field of environmental analysis and planning to support transformations of metropolitan regions towards attaining the goals of sustainable development.

Anforderungen: 

Your tasks:

  • Develop your own research portfolio in digital environmental analysis to inform spatial plan and decision-making, complementing our existing research directions
  • Particular foci may include, among others, novel approaches to assess biodiversity, ecosystem services, green infrastructure, and their contributions to human well-being from site to regional levels
  • Setting up a digital twin that harnesses sensors to monitor environmental conditions in real-time
  • Contributing to research funding acquisition
  • Authoring high-level publications and presenting research results at conferences
  • Teaching and supervising students. The load of teaching will be calculated according to §3 of Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung (state of North Rhine-Westphalia).
  • Co-advising PhD students

Your profile:

  • PhD degree in landscape ecology, landscape planning, geography or a closely related field
  • Experience in working with GIS, large spatial datasets, and methods for assessing environmental data
  • High motivation to advance innovative landscape planning research and teaching
  • Experience with collaborating in inter- and transdisciplinary teams
  • Experience in publishing in peer-reviewed journals
  • Good communication skills and fluent command of English are mandatory. Knowledge of German is an asset, but not mandatory.
  • First experience in acquiring research funding is desirable
