Technical Assistant (m/f/d) - project: Quantification of the relationships between nutrient - water and carbon fluxes along the plant root

Leibniz-Zentrum für Agrarlandschaftsforschung (ZALF) e.V.

The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society.

ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). It also maintains a research station with further locations in Dedelow and Paulinenaue.

The working group of Isotope Biogeochemistry and Gas Fluxes is looking for technical assistant within the project

"Quantification of the relationships between nutrient - water and carbon fluxes along the plant root”.

The project focuses on studying the patterns of water and nutrient fluxes in different root segments and their rhizosphere and on quantifying optimization conflicts between the element cycles, especially under stress conditions.

We are offering a full-time position temporarily limited for 36 months at our location in Müncheberg as

Technical Assistant (m/f/d)

Your tasks:

  • Independent performance of experiments under controlled conditions on C, N and P allocation in the soil-plant system
  • Handling of radioactively labeled elements (14C/33P/32P) in the context of laboratory experiments
  • Analysis of nutrient use efficiency, root water uptake and water use efficiency of crops in field experiments
  • Independent performance of experiments to quantify water fluxes along the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum using stable isotope analysis
  • Independent execution of experiments for the investigation of the root system in field and laboratory experiments using the mini rhizotron technique

We offer:

  • A collegial and open-minded working atmosphere in in state-of-the-art facilities
  • Family-orientated work
  • An interdisciplinary and international working environment
  • Classification according to the collective agreement of the federal states (TV-L) up to EG 10 if the prerequisites are met (including special annual payment)
