Marine Scientist (gn) - carbon sequestration expert

Planblue wants to help unlock seafloor restoration as a key enabler to quickly sequester atmospheric carbon. We need you to write up methodologies to help validate blue carbon credits using our underwater satellite technology. You are an expert marine scientist with vast knowhow of seagrass meadows and/or kelp forests.

What you'll be doing

  • Write up scientific methodologies for seafloor monitoring to help validate blue carbon credits using our underwater satellite technology
  • Communicate and collaborate with scientific institutes to validate our seafloor monitoring technology.
  • Write scientific reports/articles on the developed methodologies.
  • Identify seafloor organisms from our collected seafloor data using planblue’s software, to train machine learning algorithms to automatically detect organisms and objects 
  • Give feedback as a scientist and user of our software and hardware products to product team
  • You’ll be working closely together with planblue’s project team and CEO 

What you bring

  • PhD or higher in the field of marine biology, oceanography, marine ecology, environmental science, or a related field 
  • Expertise in seagrass and/or kelp monitoring
  • Great taxonomy skills (i.e., identify organisms/objects on the seafloor)
  • Proven scientific track record (i.e., renowned scientific publications and/or reports)
  • Fluent in English, with excellent writing skills 

Bonus points if you have

  • Scientific and/or commercial diver qualification with more than 3 years of experience in the field (e.g., ESD, AESD or AAUS)
  • Developed and published scientific methodologies
  • Worked in renowned scientific institutions around the world, or are connected to certification bodies / carbon credit agencies
  • Experience working in a startup environment
  • Speak German and/or Spanish
