The Opportunity:

DHI WASY (the German Unit of DHI) is seeking a Consultant – Hydrology and Water Resources to be part of our growing Water Authorities Team for the German and European markets. As Consultant / Project Engineer, you will report to the local Head of Water Authorities and be involved in advisory and digital solution implementation projects requiring advanced hydronumerical modelling and hydrological analyses for our customers.

As part of the local Water Authorities Team, you will be primarily engaged in German water balance modelling and water resources related projects. You will work directly with the local team in Germany, however you will also be able to collaborate globally and develop skills in the fields of advanced hydronumerical modelling, hydrological data analyses, digital and new technologies. The position requires a professional with excellent technical skills, communication, report writing, and teamwork.

You will be responsible for supporting the successful delivery of a broad range of projects undertaken by the Water Authorities department, which includes:

  • Hydrological analysis – river and catchment hydrology, yield assessments, flood hydrology, statistical analysis.
  • River basin assessments – water balance, water supply feasibility, sustainable use, hydropower potential.
  • Hydraulic and hydrologic modelling and feasibility studies.
  • Real time forecasting and operations – flow and flood forecasting, dam and weir operations.
  • Online tools and systems – online water resources planning systems, online tools & data services for monitoring floods and droughts, decision support systems etc.

Your Responsibilities:

You will work as part of the German Water Authorities Team, alongside 8 dedicated professionals of water resources management specialists, hydrologists and numerical modellers. Also, you will collaborate with our global Water Authorities team of 60, spanning across different offices from Europe to South-East Asia to Australia. Furthermore, there will be opportunities to collaborate with our 1100+ DHI colleagues around the globe.

The main responsibilities in the job are:

  • Carry out technical studies centred around water balance modelling and hydrological analyses
  • Undertake pre- and post-processing of numerical model input and output data, statistical data analyses, GIS processing and mapping
  • Develop and improve skills in numerical modelling and scripting
  • Report writing
  • Develop relationships with customers
  • Support capacity building in the team and share knowledge with colleagues

Your Qualifications:

  • M.Sc., Dipl.-Ing. or Ph.D. in hydrology, environmental sciences/engineering or in a comparable field
  • Very good technical and analytical knowledge
  • At least 3 years of professional work experience, hydrological data analysis and GIS processing/mapping experience
  • Experience and/or strong interest in numerical modelling, particularly in water balance modelling
  • Report writing skills
  • Fluent in German and English language skills
  • Self-motivated, ambitious, and proactive, capable of working both in teams and on your own
