Research Assistant for Social-Ecological Statistics (f/m/d)

The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society.
ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). It also maintains a research station with further locations in Dedelow and Paulinenaue.
As part of the working group for Land Use Decisions in the Spatial and System Context, the research assistant will be primarily engaged in statistical data analyses for the transdisciplinary project ECO2SCAPE: Co-design of ecologically and economically efficient policy instruments and measures for conserving biodiversity and ecosystem services in cultural landscapes and other projects with similar thematic foci. This is a position to support scientific processes and output, as well as to contribute to an exchange with practitioners.
We are offering a 50% position starting as soon as possible and temporarily limited until 31.10.2025 at our location in Müncheberg as a:
Research Assistant for Social-Ecological Statistics (f/m/d)

Your tasks:
- analyzing interview, biodiversity and ecosystem service data
- extracting spatial land use data from land use maps (GIS or R)
- social-ecological network analysis
- structural equation modelling
- other multivariate analyses
- data and code (R) management
- writing up steps in statistical methods and summarizing results for scientific publications
Your qualifications:
- you value communication as part of a working environment and work processes
- you are very comfortable in the R environment with packages for spatial and social-ecological analyses
- you love doing statistics, applying different types of models to different types of data, and are excited to experiment with social and ecological data
- you also know when to stop analyzing data and start interpreting results. In other words, you know how to manage your time, data, and code to get analyses done
- you have experience with biodiversity conservation, agriculture, food, landscape ecology, and social values – statistically and in real life
- you are fluent in English and have some basic knowledge of German
