NewClimate Institute
NewClimate Institute focuses on climate mitigation by supporting climate action research and implementation around the world. We are a dynamic and diverse multidisciplinary team of political scientists, event managers, engineers, communication experts, business administrators, writers, natural scientists, data nerds, and much more – what unites us is the will to tackle the climate crisis. Through our policy-oriented research and capacity building we help national governments, international organisations, NGOs and other actors to develop and implement solutions to the global climate change challenge. NewClimate Institute’s key motivation is to maximise impact, in a creative and fun working environment with a positive team spirit built on openness, trust, and inclusiveness.
The position
NewClimate Institute is seeking an experienced climate policy analyst in Cologne or Berlin, to strengthen the team in our analysis of corporate climate action. Depending on your background and interests, your work would focus on several of the following topics:
- Analysis of the transparency and integrity of companies’ net-zero strategies,
- Outreach to regulators and investors on the state of corporate climate action and key issues,
- Development of ideas for strengthening the global corporate climate accountability framework,
- Analysis of sector-specific decarbonisation pathways and 1.5°C-compatible benchmarks,
- Analysis of the role of carbon dioxide removals for achieving net-zero and net-negative GHGemissions, and
- Analysis of the link between companies’ climate strategies and countries’ climate changemitigation plans.
You would work on various projects related to the Corporate Climate Responsibility Monitor and the Net Zero Tracker. These projects track the trends in corporate climate action with the intention to provide critical insights on the fast-moving developments in the space. We aim to identify replicable good practice as well as issues that undermine the integrity of companies’ pledges.
You would become a core member of a wider team that evaluates ambition of corporate action, conceptualises and implements climate responsibility approaches, and follows developments for the implementation of the Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. As part of this position, you would be responsible for analytical and writing activities, including:
- Quantitative analysis,
- Leading and contributing to research reports,
- Managing medium and larger-sized projects,
- Creating and maintaining networks,
- Giving presentations in various fora, and
- Serving as the go-to-person for internal and external requests on the topic of corporate climate ambition.
This position comes with a competitive package of salary and other benefits, including 30 days of paid holiday, a public transport pass (“Deutschlandticket”), and support for a private pension scheme. The general German benefits scheme includes health insurance and social security. In certain cases, NewClimate Institute can also provide administrative support for visa applications for non-EU nationals.
