PhD position in Physiological Plant Ecology

The Chair for Ecophysiology of Plants, Technical University of Munich, offers a position as a
PhD student in Physiological Ecology of Plants (E13/65%)
from 15.02.2019 (or later) for a period of three years.

The project/task

The project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and aims at investigating temporal dynamics of trees upon drought recovery with focus on water relations, processes of carbon allocation and species interactions. The study is performed at the Forest field station “Kranzberg Forest”), where a canopy crane allows for in situ studies on adult beech and spruce in a mixed forest. The project is part of an interdisciplinary forest drought experiment (k.roof, and is paralleled by in-depths process analysis of tree resource allocation by means of stable isotopes (2H, 13C, 18O) in an up-to-date growth chamber environment (
We are looking for a highly motivated, reliable and well organized student with M.Sc./Diploma in biology, forestry, plant ecology or related disciplines. Strong interest in interdisciplinary research in forest ecology and process-oriented research and experiences with ecophysiological methods (e.g. leaf gas-exchange, stable isotopes) are beneficial. The candidate needs to be able to work in heights of over 20 m from a crane gondola and scaffoldings. Teamwork within the group and project partners requires good spoken and written English language skills.
