The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to scientifically explain causal relationships in agricultural landscapes and to provide society with a knowledge base for the sustainable use of agricultural landscapes through excellent research. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg).

As part of the BMBF research program „Soils as Sustainable Resource for the Bioeconomy - BonaRes“ the coordinating project „BonaRes - Centre for Soil Research“ is funded (www.bonares.de). Among the interdisciplinary tasks of the BonaRes – Centre is the sustainability assessment of agricultural soil management practices. Within this framework, foresight studies are carried out and scenarios are developed.

We offer a scientist position, temporally limited to 24 months. Extension of the position for another 36 months is foreseen in case of a positive evaluation of the BonaRes project.

Foresight and Scenarios of agricultural soil management

Your tasks:
  • conduct foresight studies and develop scenario narratives for agricultural soil management
  • integrate technologic, economic, environmental, policy and behavioral drivers in scenarios which are compatible with European and global scenarios such as the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways
  • integrate qualitative and quantitative methods for scenario development
  • cooperate with non-scientific actors
  • collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of scientists in BonaRes
  • publish your results in scientific journals
Your qualifications:

  • PhD in Agricultural or Environmental Sciences or in a related discipline, preferably with a socio-economic focus
  • Understanding of methods and tools of scenario development and sustainability assessment
  • Knowledge about agricultural soil management and the role of soils for sustainable development
  • Experience in interdisciplinary cooperation at the interface between natural and social sciences as well as with quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Knowledge and experience in dealing with non-scientific actors
  • Proven publication skills
