The Department of Conservation and Research in the Bavarian Forest Nationalpark examines applied and fundamental questions in nature conservation, protected area management and ecology in temperate forest ecosystems. The department is scientifically linked to the University of Würzburg. Our overall research aim is better understand the interaction forest ecosystem functioning, biodiversity and protected area management in a world of climate change. We offer a relaxing working atmosphere in the surrounding of the nationalpark with excellent outdoor possibilities (for more information please see The office is in Grafenau. The nationalpark administration has collected a number of large multitaxon data along an elevation gradient >1000 m replicated after 10 years. Analyzing these data ranging from bacteria to fungi to plants to animals should be the baseline for the postdoc position, with a clear timeline limit of 4 years, until 31.03.2024.

The successful candidate holds a PhD degree in conservation biology, ecological sciences, forest sciences or a related field. Therefore, the successful candidate should have a strong publication record as well as significant statistical skills in R programming language. Experience in the taxonomy of some forest species grouls are of advantage. The earliest starting date for the position is April 2020, whereas the exact starting date is negotiable. The position is limited to 4 years. The position enables and supports the preparation of a postdoctoral qualification (habilitation).
