The Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL is one of the world's leading research institutions in the field of organic agriculture and employs around 220 people in Switzerland.

FiBL's strengths are interdisciplinary research, joint innovations with farmers and the food industry as well as rapid knowledge transfer. FiBL Switzerland's expertise is also in demand beyond the country's borders.

It is therefore involved in numerous international projects, research, extension and training, as well as development cooperation.

Starting from 01 January 2023 or upon agreement, the Department of International Cooperation is looking for a

Senior Scientist Agroforestry

(80 – 100 %)

to lead our long-term farming systems comparison trial in Bolivia with a focus on cocoa production. It is an open-end position based in Switzerland.

Our expectations:

  • Interest in coordinating a research project promoting and further developing agroforestry systems based on the principles of organic agriculture in the tropics
  • A good understanding of and interest in conducting applied research
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, with a significant level of personal responsibility
  • Willingness to travel and spending time abroad for coordination and field trips

Your profile:

  • A master or PhD in agronomy/Agro-ecology/Agriculture/Forestry with a specialization on tropical agriculture or similar education
  • Excellent scientific or Research for Development profile
  • Working experience in Europe and another continent, ideally Latin America
  • Skills in and enjoyment of intercultural communication and international cooperation 
  • Oral and written fluency in English and a good command of Spanish; knowledge of German and French are an advantage
