Internship: Electronics/Embedded Systems for Renewable Energy Access in developing countries
MicroEnergy International (MEI) is an internationally active consulting company with headquarter in Berlin, Germany. MEI works with financial institutions, energy product & service providers, international development actors and with policy makers in order to set up sustainable clean energy finance schemes.
With the expertise gained in this sector, MEI became active in the field of technical R&D and Product development in the context of small-scale renewable energy in global southern countries, used to offer electricity services in offgrid communities. Several projects on this area focus on topics such as decentralized DC swarm-type microgrids, using Open Hard/Software concepts to support energy entrepreneurship, solar-home-systems as well as machine-to-machine communication and power electronics.
MicroEnergys „soldesign“ R&D department offers a new internship position for a period of 3 to 6 months. We are looking for an engaged, self-driven individual that is interested to gain practical experience in the fields of renewable energy & embedded electronics. The intern will work in a dynamic environment with a young, international and multidisciplinary team, applying their skills to real world problems.
Under the supervision of the R&D-department coordinator, the intern will have the following responsibilities:
Develop, simulate, prototype and test embedded electronic circuits for our „Open Hardware Energy Access“ platform
Program microcontrollers with C/C++ or Arduino IDE
Provide technicals support to our projects and staff in developing countries
Perform other duties as assigned
l Electronics: Basic knowledge or interest in microcontroller platforms (Arduino, …)
l Programming: Ideally Arduino, C, C++, Matlab/Simulink, LTSpice or similar experience
l Education: Electrical engineering, (Power) Electronics, Energy Engineering or Renewable Energy Engineering preferred
l Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
l Excellent skills in English, optional German and other human languages
l Software: Office, experience with Linux and other Open-Source-Software is an asset
