PhD / Postdoc Position in Environmental Economics

The Chair of Environmental Economics, Regulatory and Consumer Policy at the Institute of Economics of the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart / Germany invites applications for a position as PhD or Postdoc within the framework of the research project RISAWA (Rice production caught between salinity and drought – future options for sustainable use of water in the Mekong Delta region) starting at the earliest possible date. The position is limited until 31.01.2022. The salary will be paid according to TV-L E13 (50%).

The interdisciplinary joint Vietnamese-German research project RISAWA scrutinizes the conditions and future chances of traditional rice cultivation in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD) under the influence of climate change. The RISAWA subproject "Assessing the social benefits accruing from preserving traditional rice production in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta" focusses on the empirical assessment of the social benefits from a preservation of traditional rice production in the VMD, which is endangered by climate change. For this purpose, field experiments based on the Contingent Valuation Method and Choice Experiments will be conducted in the VMD.

Requirements:
  • An accredited Master’s degree in Economics or related fields (grade: good or better).
  • Applicants should be fluent in English. A good command of German is desirable and a basic knowledge of Vietnamese is advantageous, since part of the research will be done in in the VMD.
  • Willingness to work in an international and interdisciplinary team.

Your tasks:
  • Participation in the theoretical design and practical execution of a welfare economic valuation study in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta.
  • Evaluation of survey results and data analysis.
  • Participation in joint publications of the project results and presentation at international conferences.
  • Possibility to attain a doctoral degree.
