The mission of the Leibniz Centre for AgriculturalLandscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to scientifically explain causal relationships in agricultural landscapes and to provide society with a knowledge base for the sustainable use of agricultural landscapes through excellent research.

ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg).
It also maintains a research station with further locations in Dedelow and Paulinenaue.
As part of the BMBF research program „Soils as Sustainable Resource for the Bioeconomy - BonaRes“ the coordinating project „BonaRes -Centre for Soil Research“ is funded (

The development of scenarios for agricultural soil management is among the tasks of the BonaRes –Centre. The activity is implemented in close collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of scientists.
We offera scientist position,temporally limited to 24 months. In case of a positive evaluation of the BonaRes project the project and this position will be extended for another 36 months.

Scientist (PostDoc) Foresight and Scenarios of emerging technologies in agricultural soil management

Your tasks:
  • organize foresight studies and assess trends of soil management and soil services
  • develop scenarios compatible with European and global scenarios such as those of IPCC of soil management that integrate technologic, economic, environmental, policy and behavioral drivers
  • integrate quantitative and qualitativemethodsincl.stakeholder workshops and interviews
  • disseminateresults to support stakeholders, such as policy makers, for their decision-making processes
  • cooperate with the assessment and governance research in the BonaRes project and engage with the relevant international scientific community
  • document your work in scientific publications and synthesize research results into formats for policy support
Your qualifications:

  • PhD in agricultural sciencesor a related discipline
  • Experience with foresight andscenario studies at regional/national/international levels
  • Knowledge about agricultural soil management and the role of soilsforsustainable development
  • Understanding of sustainability assessment methodsand toolsProfound experience in interdisciplinary cooperation and knowledge generation
  • Experience in interacting with non-scientific actors in farming, business, policy, and civil society.
  • Experience with qualitative as well as quantitative scientific methods
  • Proven publication skills
  • Excellent command in English and German
  • Working well in the team as well as being able to work independently
  • Ambition to follow a scientific career
