Feldtechniker/in - Field/lab technician

Deutsches Forschungszentrum für integrative Biodiversitätsforschung - iDiv/Universität Oulu

Beschreibung:
Academy of Finland/University of Oulu funded project “Biotic modulators of plant community resistance and resilience to multiple global changes” is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and independent

Field/lab technician

The technician will be working with Global Change and Biotic Interaction Group at the Department of Physiological Diversity at UFZ (Helmholtz Zentrum für Umweltforschung)/iDiv (Deutsches Zentrum für integrative Biodiversitätsforschung) in Leipzig investigating the impacts of climate change, grazing and nutrient enrichment on plant communities. We test the roles of competition for light and species functional traits mediating the impacts of climate, herbivory and nutrients on diversity and species composition. We use novel methods, i.e., illumination by LED-lamps to manipulate light. Field work happens at the Global Change Experimental Facility (GCEF) in Bad Lauchstädt.

Contents of tasks:
  • Taking trait measurements from plants in field and laboratory (e.g. measuring photosynthetic capacity with LICOR fluorescence and photosynthesis system, and SLA, C and N from plant tissues), taking light quality/quantity and soil moisture measurements in the field, soil and plant biomass sampling, transplant measurements, seedlings surveys, taking care of light manipulation experiment etc.
  • Processing plant and soil samples for chemical analyses in laboratory
  • Helping researchers in various tasks in the field and lab

Timing of employment:
  • April 1 – August 31/September 30 (5-6 months, timing can be negotiated). Although the work is in Germany, the employer is University of Oulu, Finland. The salary group depends on the level of education and personal experience.
