Michal Succow Foundation, Partner in the Greifswald Mire Centre, a renowned institution for international nature conservation, ecological restoration and climate protection is hiring:

We are looking for a

Technical project manager in peatland restoration project in Russia  (2020-2023, 40 months)

at our office in Greifswald/ Germany (home office opportunities on request) at the earliest possible date. Specific tasks you find below.

You need:

  • University degree in landscape ecology, biology, environmental-, geo-sciences or similar, preferably with a focus on peatlands;
  • At least 3 years’ professional experience in project management, preferably in ecological restoration and/or connected to peatlands;
  • Joy to working in a highly engaged and motivated team;
  • Ability to work in a challenging context of international cooperation;
  • Flexibility for business trips to Russia;
  • Advanced language skills in English, preferably basics in Russian and German;
  • Skills in handling standard computer software and GIS;
  • Preferably EU driving licence.

Tasks:

  • Coordination of international peatland restoration experts for review of technical designs;
  • Technical input to demonstration facilities in the pilot sites with practical examples of rewetting and monitoring techniques and applications;
  • Technical input to training courses, workshops, seminars (applied, scientific, organizational) on applied aspects of ecological peatlands rewetting/restoration, GHG emission assessment & peatland conservation;
  • Capacity building for political, administrative and legal stakeholders for peatlands restoration, monitoring and management;
  • International exchange of lessons learned: student exchange, study tours, mutual working groups;
  • Integration of technical knowledge on peatland restoration for climate into education systems (e.g. universities, schools, protected area educational programmes);
  • Support for integration of project results into the international environmental political process via National Reporting and presenting results in the scientific and political fora;
  • Development of innovative economic approaches and incentive mechanisms to enhance the sustainability of peatland restoration through private sector;
  • Promotion of benefits of paludiculture practices in the rewetted peatlands.

All tasks will be carried out in close cooperation with the Foundation's “Peatlands & Climate Change” team and scientific staff from Greifswald University in the frame of the Greifswald Mire Centre partnership.

The Michael Succow Foundation pays according to an in-house wage scale.
