Job description:

The job will be mainly associated with the Professorship for Forest and Agroforest Systems in Freising, Germany. The Professorship has been newly founded at the TUM and studies ecosystem component interactions as drivers for ecosystem structures, dynamics and services and how these can be managed.

The successful candidate will be focusing on recording and describing forest vegetation in 3D across a scale gradient (small – large, stand – landscape) and linking these to one another. The data basis for the area of research will be terrestrial and aerial LiDAR, in combination with auxiliary data.


The candidate we are looking for ideally has:

  • Pronounced scientific curiosity
  • Enthusiasm for and competence in quantitative data analysis
  • Experience with spatial 3D data and geospatial computing
  • First experience with multivariate statistics, modelling and relevant languages (R, Python, etc.) and strong interest in further developing programming skills
  • Motivation and interest in developing strong scientific writing skills
  • Team player with interest in teaching and working with students

Job requirements:

  • Excellent diploma or master’s degree
  • Excellent knowledge of English
  • Pronounced writing skills are a benefit

Starting date:

01.03.2021 (part-time 65%, fixed-term for 3 years)
