The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). It also maintains a research station with further locations in Dedelow and Paulinenaue.
The EU-funded project Soil Mission Support (SMS, November 2020 – October 2022; www.soilmissionsupport.eu) develops a research and innovation (R&I) framework for effective action in Europe and globally in the fields of soil health and sustainable land management.
The project identifies criteria for living labs and lighthouses, aiming to demonstrate practical solutions. Moreover, it applies trans-disciplinary and interactive methods for analysing the needs for R&I and identifying gaps and priority areas, as well as types of action for intervention. SMS engages with stakeholders from agriculture, forestry, spatial planning, land remediation, climate action and disaster control. The project supports the Horizon Europe Mission in the area of soil health and food.
