The Common Wadden Sea Secretariat (CWSS) is seeking a committed Project Officer for Monitoring and Assessment. The position starts as soon as possible and runs until 29 February 2028. It is envisaged to be extended or converted into a permanent appointment subject to organizational requirements and funding.
About Us
CWSS supports, facilitates, and coordinates the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation (TWSC), in which Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands share responsibility for the transboundary Wadden Sea World Heritage Site. The Trilateral Monitoring and Assessment Programme (TMAP) is the joint monitoring programme of the three Wadden Sea states for assessing the ecological status of the Wadden Sea.
Working at CWSS means being part of a dynamic, international, and mission-driven team, operating in a trilateral policy-management environment. English is the working language. Our office is located by the seaside in Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
Your Responsibilities
- Coordinate trilateral monitoring, assessment and data handling in the context of TMAP as the focal point for the programme and secretary to relevant trilateral working groups.
- Oversee data provision and access as basis for trilateral reporting and coordinate the Wadden Sea Quality Status Reports (QSR).
- Facilitate exchange between trilateral groups, stakeholders from public authorities, consultants, relevant conventions, and the scientific community on monitoring and assessment and related topics.
- Support on emerging topics and tasks and on external communication on assigned topics.
Your Profile
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., ecology, environmental sciences, marine biology, conservation) or corresponding education.
- Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in environmental monitoring and assessment, preferably in nature conservation, and in multidisciplinary data management at national or international level.
- Strong background in database development and management, data portals, geospatial web services and GIS techniques, as well as a solid understanding of international metadata standards.
- Proven project management, coordination and communication skills, ideally in an international or transboundary context, and ability to draft concise texts and to work towards tight deadlines.
- Flexibility and ability to support staff members, showing strong social skills.
- Excellent command of spoken and written English (working language); proficiency in Danish, German, or Dutch is an asset.
What We Offer
- Salary according to the German Collective Agreement for Civil Service Employees (TVöD) up to level 13, depending on experience.
- A sound, diverse and dynamic working environment in Wilhelmshaven with a flexible working scheme.
- A supportive and dedicated international team.
- Room to grow professionally within the trilateral Wadden Sea nature conservation community.
