The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). The institute maintains further locations in Brandenburg (Dedelow, Paulinenaue) as well as in Hesse (Giessen, Witzenhausen, and Geisenheim).
The project HiddenFun is conducted within the Sustainable Grassland Systems working group, located in Paulinenaue. The project focuses on root functioning in herbaceous plant species using a unique model system of plants with different clonality-related growth forms. Multiple plant species are grown in standardized pot conditions at Paulinenaue research station and will be harvested and processed in autumn 2026.
We are offering a part-time position (40 h/month for 4 months) starting in September 2026 at our location in Paulinenaue as

Your tasks:
- Plant harvest, including root washing (outdoors)
- Scanning of roots (lab)
- Weighing of dry biomass (lab)
- Plant tissue grinding (lab)
There will be fixed intensive period of work in September, followed by processing samples on a continuous basis, allowing work to be scheduled according to your preferences.
Your qualifications:
- A minimum of 4 semesters of studying biology or a related field including Botany courses
- Matriculation at a German University
- Reliability and time flexibility
- Patience and precision
- Ability to communicate in English
