International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT)

The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) is an award-winning, independent global non-profit research organization dedicated to designing and implementing policies that address the impacts of the global transportation sector on climate change and public health. We provide high-quality, data-driven research to public officials, as well as to civil society and industry. Our mission-driven and diverse workplace values intelligence, flexibility, transparency, and good humor.

We are excited to announce an immediate opening for a highly motivated Fellow, to support the work of our passenger cars and heavy-duty vehicle teams in Europe for one year. The position will contribute to ICCT’s efforts to enable an accelerated transition to electric vehicles and meet Europe’s climate targets. This will be done by focusing on two fields of work, namely electric vehicle charging infrastructure deployment and new vehicle CO2 emission standards. The successful candidate will focus on analyzing the challenges and forecasting future needs for charging infrastructure development and integration with the electricity grid in Europe as well as contribute to the European team’s work on supply side regulations, such as CO2 performance standards and energy efficiency regulation.

The position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of technical research and policymaking. You will contribute to rigorous research and modeling and assist in deriving concrete policy recommendations to accelerate the decarbonization of road transport in Europe.

We seek candidates with strong research skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities in English, and the ability to translate technical insights into actionable policy recommendations. We value a demonstrated interest in addressing global climate challenges and advancing the electrification of transport.
Experience in modeling electric vehicle charging infrastructure planning and simulating vehicle energy consumption and CO2 emissions is a plus.

Position Level:

  • Fellow

You will:

  • Conduct scientific literature review and support research and analysis to forecast charging infrastructure requirements and electric vehicle energy demands.
  • Perform modeling and data analysis on electric vehicle market development and on energy consumption and CO2 emission levels of new cars and vans, both under type-approval and real-world driving conditions.
  • Contribute to ICCT’s policy recommendations on charging infrastructure and CO2 regulations.

You have:

  • A bachelor’s or master's degree in environmental science, engineering, power systems, environmental policy or related discipline.
  • An understanding of vehicle technology (electric and combustion engine), CO2 standards, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure and interest in climate change.
  • Data analysis skills using Python or R and using GIS.
  • Preferably experience in charging infrastructure modelling and vehicle longitudinal dynamics simulation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in other European languages is a plus.

What we offer:

This position is based in Berlin. It is a full-time position, offering an annual salary of at least 37,303 EUR (40 hours/week). The ICCT provides an excellent benefits package including hybrid/remote work flexibilities, transportation subsidies, professional development opportunities, and other benefits. Employment as a Research Fellow is for one year, with a strong focus on learning hands-on about the research and outreach methodologies of ICCT and thereby acquiring valuable skills for future employment opportunities within ICCT or other organizations.

Application:

To apply, please submit a resume (please refrain from submitting a photograph) and a cover letter indicating your interest. Please include your ideal start date. The position will remain open until filled.

If available, please submit two writing samples or relevant technical research publications primarily written by the applicant (in English), and the names and contact information of two professionals or academic references and/or any reference letters available.

We are committed to equal employment opportunities, regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, or veteran status. We take pride in being an equal-opportunity workplace.
